Event Stage Management
Theatre stage managers often make their way into the live event industry. My experience in the event industry is as a deck manager, which is the equivalent of an assistant stage manager in theatre. Events are extremely fast-paced, often with little to no rehearsal time. All crew and managers hired for the event must be on their A-game, meeting high expectations, and ready to troubleshoot at a moment's notice. As a deck manager, I often interface with high-level executives, and must remain professional, as they rely on me to cue them onstage, organize their script, and help with their microphone. On the day of the event, their nerves usually add an additional layer to job: keeping things running smoothly to keep everyone calm. I love the speed and excitement that comes from working events!
